INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE TEMPLATE
The authors may use Bentham OPEN Journal’s
template for the preparation of their manuscripts, which will
assist them in providing much of the formatting details as
well as the overall style of the manuscript, in which the
manuscript should be submitted. The submission of the manuscript
through the template will facilitate the reviewing process,
thereby expediting the publication procedure.
START USING OF TEMPLATE
The authors should use the template exactly as per the below
instructions, without making any attempts to modify the template.
1) The initial step to apply the template is to download the
template file ”bentham-template.dot”
from the Bentham OPEN Journal’s official website
www.bentham.org/open/bentham-template.dot
and select the option “save target as” from the
popup menu.
2) Save the file as a template in the template directory
of Microsoft Word (for example C:/program files/Microsoft
Word template).
3) This document will be saved in the templates folder with
a .dot extension and will appear only as a General
tab in the New dialogue box
To open the template
1. To open the template, choose File
and then click New. The Bentham OPEN Journal’s template will become
available for use under the General tab.
2. Select the Bentham OPEN Journal’s template
and make sure that the option Create new: Document
(not Template) is selected. A file
containing sample text sections will appear. This text can
be formatted with the paragraph style appropriate for the
section.
3. In addition, a popup Styles toolbar will also appear on
your screen listing the template styles available for the
template. This toolbar can be closed and reopened for later
use when needed (View, Toolbars,
Bentham OPEN Journal’s template).
Note: The template file contains macros and seeks your
command to either Disable Macros, Enable Macros, or Not Open
the file. It is safe to enable the macros. Select Enable Macros.
The macro is a popup box containing the Word Styles needed
for using the template and it does not contain any viruses
Using the template to upload a manuscript
There are several ways to upload a manuscript within this
template:
1) Type / paste the manuscript directly on the existing template,
especially designed for the purpose.
- After opening
the Bentham-open.dot file, you will see a manuscript already
written there in this template
- Highlight
the title of the manuscript and paste the already copied title
of your manuscript or simply start typing the manuscript’s
title. You will see that unformatted title will take the formatting
of template.
- The entities
can be typed/pasted sequentially.
- This file
can be saved with any name, without being damaged, and can
be used again and again.
2) Use the blank Template/Delete entire content of the template
and start formatting the manuscript by using Bentham OPEN Journal’s convenient template tools.
- Open the
Bentham-open.dot file, paste the already copied manuscript.
- This will
provide you with an unformatted manuscript in your template.
- Click to
select (highlight) the complete title of the manuscript and
then click on the “manuscript title” in the Bentham OPEN Journal’s template style tool bar.
- Similarly,
please highlight the author’s name and click on “Author’s
name” in the Bentham OPEN Journal’s template
style tool bar.
- Highlight
the address and click on “Address” in the Bentham OPEN Journal’s template style tool bar.
- Your transformed
file can be saved with any preferable name. Your template
can never be overwritten and at the time of saving the file,
simultaneously a new document is saved, maintaining the originality
of the template.
How to insert figures in the template:
1. Place the cursor where insertion of the figure is required.
2. Click on Insert Figure tag on Bentham OPEN Journal’s
template tool bar.
3. Find the figure to be inserted from your computer and click
“insert” on browsing box.
4. Do not resize or add labels to the figure from within the
template. If the resizing is required, resize it in a graphic
program and repeat steps no. 1 and 2 (maximum width is 3 in.
(8 cm)).
Inserting Chemical Structures in the template:
1. Use ChemDraw / ISISDraw
2. Copy the Structure and paste it into the template.
3. Do not save the structures as a file.
Save and send
1. After uploading the entire manuscript, delete all the irrelevant
text from the template.
2. Click Save As (File
menu) and save it as a "document" file (.doc).
3. Assign a file name that identifies your manuscript.
4. Save the file and send it to us.
